Our Final Clinic Day

Everyone woke up ready for our last clinic day. We ate a delicious breakfast and Jack lead our morning devotion. He discussed how our actions for God live on beyond our time on earth. Shortly after devotion, we all gathered for our final pre clinic prayer and set up each station. Clinic was very busy like it had been the past two days. Everyone had lots of experience with each station so we were able to help at testing and dispensing stations when they got backed up. It has been amazing watching everyone get more comfortable and have the willingness to help where it is needed. At one point, there was a woman who came through that we served and we were able to get her a much needed pair of glasses that enabled her to finally see faces. By lunch we served around 100 people. After lunch, everyone was ready to finish strong and serve the last few people to come through the clinic. As we neared the end, everyone started to clean up their stations as the last people came through. We got to thank our interpreters and say our final goodbyes to them. They had been such a huge help and we were so grateful for all they have done. Before dinner, we all had some time to relax, talk, play soccer, and football. During dinner, we had our team meeting and discussed things that may have changed about each of us throughout our mission. We also discussed how we again served around 150 people. After dinner Mike lead our devotion. He discussed how we should serve with gladness because God has sent us out to do so. 


Day 1. Sunday. 6 hours. 86 people. 108 glasses. 106 sunglasses. 

Day 2. Monday. 6 1/2 hours.  80 people. 118 glasses. 100 sunglasses. 

Day 3. Tuesday. 7 1/2 hours.  157 people.  215 glasses. 187 sunglasses. 

Day 4. Wednesday.  7 hours.  150 people. 274 glasses.  170 sunglasses.  

Day 5. Thursday.  8 hours.  150 people.  248 glasses.  170 sunglasses.  

TOTAL:   35 hours of Eyeglass Clinics with 11 team members working, plus 4 or 5 interpreters, 1 or 2 church members at the Registration area, 3 or 4 cooks, and Pastor at the Evangelism Station every day.  

623 people served. 963 prescription glasses distributed. Plus 733 sunglasses given away.

  After a well deserved rest, everyone was up for the day. The sky was very clear and we were able to see the volcano in the distance. We ate breakfast this morning and Karlee lead our morning devotion. We discussed how God loves everyone and gives grace not dependent on our works. Once breakfast and devotional was over, Dr. Elry was already checking people in to the clinic again. We all got to our stations after a quick prayer. Then we were off! People tricked in steadily and we were able to serve everyone with the proper care they needed. Marty was even able to fix a couple of pair of glasses that were broken. An older woman who was around 95 years old came in and we had to adjust how we tested her. Her son brought her in and was very chatty with everyone! At one point a boy came in with his mother and a small dog. The dog hung out in the clinic while the mom and boy got tested and received glasses. Clinic Day Three

To start the morning we ate a delicious breakfast and Christina began our morning devotions. We discussed how practicing humility is important and how Jesus is our perfect example of practicing humility. As we finished up and went into the clinic, we did a quick prayer before be began serving people. We were a lot busier than yesterday with every station filled with people to help. Everyone from young kids in school to several 90 year olds who came to see us today. Since this is our third clinic day, we are all starting to pick up on some new Spanish phrases within our stations and using them to help. Everything is starting to flow a bit better and everyone is getting more experienced within their roles. We were so busy right up until lunch where we were all able to take a short break. Training!

This past weekend our team got together for training on how our clinic will work once we arrive in Guatemala. We were able to get a better understanding of the tasks we would need to do in the field. We practiced the gospel message we will be spreading, testing eyes, distributing, and fitting glasses. There was so much to learn, and our team is ready to use the talent, time, and supplies God has gifted us to serve others. With less than 2 weeks before takeoff, we continue to pray for both our travels and those we are going to serve.
