Tourism Day

Everyone woke up this morning excited for all the adventures we had planned for the day. We fueled up with a delicious breakfast then Karlee led our morning devotion. She discussed how God has led and provided for us throughout this trip. Once devotion was over, we all loaded up the van to drive 2 hours to a neighboring city. Our first stop was a small hike up to a huge cross that overlooked the city. Everyone was able to take some awesome pictures. After visiting the cross, we took a short ride to a couple of museums. We first got a tour of a music museum and learned about the spiritual significance music had in the Mayan religion. Next, we toured a coffee plantation where we got to learn the process of growing, fermenting, and roasting coffee beans. After that, we were able to try some of the coffee and locally made chocolate. After our tours, we took a break for lunch at a nice restaurant. Lunch was delicious and once it was over we were ready for our next adventure. We went to a market where we were able to buy local products and art. Everyone was able to master the art of bartering to get some good deals. After our bartering adventure, we went to see an old Catholic Church and got some gelato to end our day. As we drove back, everyone was tired but in high spirits. We talked about our adventures and sang songs that everyone knew. When we got back, we had a late dinner and had our final team meeting. We prepared for our return tomorrow. Our final nightly devotion was led by Pastor Tyler. He explained how hardship in our lives may be leading us to do greater works through God. He also discussed that throughout our clinics we weren’t just restoring physical sight but also spiritual sight. Throughout our final days in Guatemala, our group has continually discussed how our work went beyond simply giving away a pair or two of glasses. We took time to truly understand what each and everyone needed from us. Whether it was a pair of sunglasses, someone to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or spiritual guidance. We started to realize that it didn’t matter the quantity of people we helped. Even if just one person saw the love of God through us it made our whole trip worth it.
